Monday, September 10thth was focused on our first Embassy Interview. Lilly's first trip to American soil -- or really an office building with a small American section. The agencies prepare you for the worst, but the embassy interview was really a simple process that took 10 minutes. The State Department officer was a young man who is 2 months into a 2-year assignment. He asked a few basic questions about our adoption process to date, and then advised the paperwork would be forwarded to the American Consulate in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) City, where it is officially processed. We were told to anticipate Embassy approval in about a week, and could then obtain a VISA.
From this point, the remaining legal steps: Need Lilly's Vietnamese passport (should receive around Thursday). Then Lilly's official medical examination. Upon Embassy approval, second Embassy interview (next week). Then obtain Lilly's exit visa, and finally we can be on our way.
