We left Chappaqua at 7:30 am, New York Time..
Eli was very excited, and he knew he was finally going to Vietnam. Of course, he didn't know how long it would take to get there. So when the car service started through the Bronx, Eli pointed out the window and asked, "this Vietnam?"
He had a blast at JFK. He made a new friend, ran around looking at the planes, and he had to lug around his own suit case.
He was mostly very very well behaved on the 17 hour flight from JFK to Bangkok. He slept for several hours, spreading himself over 3 seats--- His feet in Pam's lap, his head in Adam's lap. He whined a couple times, but no explosions.
He was getting tired and impatient by the time we got to Bangkok. Only a 90-minute flight from Bangkok to Hanoi, but he cried during takeoff and landing. At least it was a short flight.
So, about 25 hours after starting, we arrived in Hanoi. As we left the airport, we realized we had a celebrity with us--- Eli was mobbed by a large Vietnamese family, that wanted pictures of their baby next to the American baby. They all fawned over Eli. Eli might just be in for a lot of attention.
Also, as soon as we arrived in Vietnam, Eli insisted we had to go find baby sister Lilly! He started looking around the airport, looking at any babies, looking for his baby sister. We tried to explain to him that he has to wait a few more days.
The car ride from the airport to the hotel was a bit surreal. It was night time, so it was dark, and we didn't see that much. But we did see streets crowded with 10 motorcycles for every automobile. And our car got too close for Pam's comfort to the motorcycles, several times. No helmets on the riders--- And we saw whole families piled onto 1 motorcycle.
We're staying at the Somerset Grand Hanoi--- Serviced apartment. We have a 2 bedroom apartment. It seems like it was the right choice. We just ordered a late dinner room service-- Western and Eastern foods on the menu, but we delved into Vietnamese food. Anyway... time to go eat, finish unpacking, and get some sleep. Except for closing my eyes for a few minutes here and there, I (Adam) have been awake for about 28 straight hours now.
